St Martin’s CE Primary and Nursery School
“Learning to Love, Loving to Learn”
We are privileged to have, as part of our extended family, our church school with whom we have a long-standing and very close connection, going right back to our very own foundation in 1871, when the school and church began in the small chapel on St Martin’s road.
In 1987 the school moved to a newly constructed site on the Hartington Road, and in the years since has grown to become an outstanding Church of England school, whose mission statement is:
“We strive to create a school family in which our children are educated and inspired through love and understanding of God, each other and our world.”
Towards this goal, we work closely with our school to achieve three aims, which are:
1. Working in partnership with parents, to teach the Christian faith and help children accept their responsibilities as Christians.
2. To ensure the provision of education based upon high standards and the pursuit of excellence.
3. To promote the total personal, social and spiritual development of each child.
The success we’ve had together in meeting these aims can be easily seen when visiting the school, which you will discover is distinctive for its caring, happy and family character. And so the school’s head-teacher, Joanne Smith, says:
“You will see that our school is a happy, exciting and safe environment for your children. We are a small and friendly school where the atmosphere is one of a large family. The children are valued and treated as individuals and are encouraged to develop into confident, respectful and caring members of our school community.”
